Fabric Market and of course more shopping!

So today we found out that for our performance on Friday we are doing just one dance, the first one we learned. I am not that terrified, however we still don’t know if she will do it with us or not. We also learned that we will be learning ANOTHER dance this upcoming week. So yes that makes a total of 5 dances in 3 weeks! My head is spinning, plus there is a different costume for each one! So for our final, which we just began looking at spaces, will be held at this really awesome and historical location right next to the studio. Picture a yard with maybe four or five houses on wooden beams. Turns out the university bought these houses from the owners a while ago because they are some of the oldest houses in Chiang Mai. I would post pictures but because of a scandalous incident involving a model and a risqué photo the university doesn’t allow pictures or videos in the houses. Tomorrow we begin learning the fifth dance, it comes from northern Thai. The short fingernail dance and this new one, both are northern dances. This fifth dance originated in Sukkothai, which is the location of our excursion this weekend. Tomorrow we have the orientation about the trip.

So after class today our three roommates met us on their motorbikes and took us to this fabric market where we finally got these handmade beautiful bags that our teacher has been talking about. I definitely spoiled myself there. Well when I say spoil, I mean like Thai spoil. American it would probably be around 30 dollars for bags and other souvenirs I can’t describe in case one of the lucky loved ones is reading! But it was great getting to ride around on the motorbike with my roommate, with a helmet of course mom!  When my roommate’s schedule lightens up she said we could take a day and she would bring me around on her motorbike to the temples around here. I am super excited to do that, and for sure I will have her write down the name of each temple. As we were driving we always seemed to be close to some variation of a temple.

After this weekend excursion we will hopefully be able to schedule in the time to trek through the forest on the elephants!
